The body scan meditation is a relaxation technique that was made popular in the 70’s by Jon Kabat-Zinn in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction or MBSR. In MBSR it is used to help patients with chronic pains and it is also widely used as a relaxation technique. The technique itself is very simple, you scan the different parts of your body that you can name, from head to toe and spend one or more breath cycles on each part to register the sensations as you inhale and let go of the tension as you exhale. Body scan will increase your level of attention, help you relax and release stress.
